Why you don't want your passion to go viral

It happened again last night.  Another viral outbreak...oh this poor women.

The allure of going viral is real for anyone wanting to make a dent online.  You tell yourself, "If only people knew."  But something happens in our brains when it comes to viral material, we don't expect to see it again.  Not from the same person or from the same company or the same organization, we simply don't expect to see viral twice...because then it wouldn't be viral.

Being discovered can't be your goal.  Your chances of becoming a viral sensation are slim but your chances of being forgotten as a viral sensation are high.

Unless.

You've done the work every day.  You've done something to get a little bit better.

You wrote another post.  You read another book.  You followed a new helpful blog. You commented on someone else's post.  You shipped something you created.  You went to another mastermind meeting.  You joined an online network of peers.  You went to a conference.  You offered to coach someone.

People return to online content when they know it is consistent.  When they can expect something new they will want to come back.  And for you to provide this to someone requires something out of you viral sensations don't do:

You have to get a little bit better every day.

Then you won't need your passion to go viral because it wouldn't last very long anyways.
